FIRE BOMB RAID

DEALT WITH EFFECTIVELY IN LONDON NEW ORGANISATION PROVES ITS WORTH. MANY OUTBREAKS PREVENTED. Thursday night’s fire bomb raid on London proved the value of the expanded fire-fighting organisation, a 8.8. C. broadcast states. A large number of bombs were dropped, but all were promptly dealt with and not one fire resulted. In one small borough, twenty bombs were dealt with so promptly that the regular fire brigades did not have to be called in. Bombs fell in widely separated •districts in England and Wales. Some damage was done to property, but nowhere were there many casualties. An agency report states that one of the raiders was shot down by night fighters. Another report speaks of the whirr glare of a great explosion in the sky having been seen over Southern England. It is now revealed that in Wednesday night’s air raids on England two enemy bombers were shot down by anti-aircraft guntire.
