VITAL STRONGHOLD

TAKEN BY THE GREEKS ON ROAD TO VALONA 'ITALIAN DEFENCE SMASHED. It has just been announced from Athens, the 8.8. C. reports, that Greek advance troops have occupied Khimara (or Himara), on the Albanian coast. Khimara was a vital Italian stronghold on the coast road to Valona. The Italians stiffly defended the town after fighting a continuous rearguard action on the approaches and launching counter-attacks. Some of Italy’s best troops were used for these operations. There lias been considerable air activity over Albania. Eighteen Italian fighters have been brought down and two more received heavy damage. Three Italian bombers have been brought down by t anti-aircraft gun fire.
