Wellington.—By defeating Wellington College Old Boys by 86 runs on the first innings, Kilbirnie increased their lead, and arc now eight clear points ahead of their nearest rivals. Hutt and Midland. Old Boys found the task of reaching Kilbirnie’s total of 296 beyond them, and because of good bowling by T. G. Lemin, the side was dismissed for 210. Kilbirnie had lost one wicket for 47 runs in their second innings, when drizzling rain stopped play at 5.20 p.m. Wellington put up a fine batting performance in making 345 runs at the Basin Reserve to beat Midland by 39 runs on the first innings. The feature of the day’s play was the big score of 496 for nine wickets piled up by Hutt against Institute Old Boys. Both E. G. McLeod, the captain, and E. Gillies scored centuries. This large score enabled Hutt to win on the first innings by 218 runs. By running up 306 for nine wickets, and then applying the closure, Karori beat University by 56 runs on the first innings, and scored their second win for the season. University scored 250 and 104 for four wickets. Dunedin. —Fine weather and exciting finishes made the grade cricket on Saturday most interesting. The leading team’, Albion-Y.M.C.A., scored 266 (Duncan 56), in reply to Carisbrook B’s 319, so that Carisbrook B gained a first innings win with a quarter of an hour to spare. Facing Carisbrook A’s total of 236. Old Boys lost eight for 147, but recovered so well that the total was 251. Carisbrook’s second innings produced 105 for four wickets (Walsh not out 51). Dunedin, 280 for three, declared. beat University 225 (Lawson 59). but the last University wicket did not fall till the last ball of the afternoon. Grange, 152. won easily against Kaikorai, 64 and 127 for four (Allcott 45). The Kaikorai batsmen collapsed before the bowling of Elmes. who took nine for 22 in the first innings.
