DEMOCRATIC LABOUR

MASTERTON BRANCH FORMED. MEETING LAST EVENING. There was an attendance of 35 supporters at a meeting held in the Y.M.C.A. rooms, Masterton, last night, when it was unanimously decided, a supplied report states, to form a local branch of the Democratic Labour Party. Mr E. J. Esler was elected to the chair. Many apologies for absence were received. Mr Esler contended that the Labour Party had gone to the country expounding a monetary policy which it was considered had not been carried into effect. He held that electors had been let down by the Labour Party. Several others expressed views in support of Mr Esler’s remarks.

A welcome was extended to members of the Eketahuna branch, the president of which returned thanks. The election of officers resulted:— President, Mr E. J. Esler; secretary, Mr E. Jones; executive committee, Messrs J. Kingsnorth, P. Schellin, H. Duley, W. McArley, A. 1., Gibbs. Mr Esler was appointed delegate to the Democratic Labour conference to be held in Wellington on October 24.

Advice was received from Mr J. A. Lee, M.P., that he would be prepared to address a public meeting in the immediate future. The matter of fixing a date was left in the hands of Mr Esler.
