EXHIBITION WRITING DESK
MADE IN MASTERTON, FROM NEW ZEALAND WOODS. Some months ago at the opening of the New Zealand Centennial Exhibition a description of a writing desk which was designed and made in Masterton from selected New Zealand woods and materials purchased in this town, was published. This special contribution to New Zealand’s Centennial Exhibition has given its designer and maker an immense amount of satis’faction in that it has been displayed in the Woods and Forests section of the Government Court of the Exhibition for the purpose of giving an actual example of the use New Zealand timber can be put to for the purposes of the finest possible work. Masterton residents will be pleased to know that its maker, Mr Donald McKirdy, acceded to requests and has adopted* the suggestion that this extremely fine example of the cabinetmaking craft should be displayed in Masterton after the close of the Exhibition and with that end in view he will visit Masterton during this week to complete arrangements for its display. As Mr McKirdy finds it necessary to return to Australia in the near future he would like to publicly express his appreciation and thanks to his employer while in Masterton. Mr Dagg, of the Masterton Joinery Works, for the assistance and the use of factory facilities during the spare time making of this exhibit. He also thanks the Masterton hardware and electrical businesses which co-operated and assisted him in the obtaining of materials. as well as the many friends whose appreciation and interest greatly assisted him in this voluntary contribution to the New Zealand Centennial Exhibition.
