’ ACTIVITIES IN MASTERTON. , FORMATION OF LADIES’ COMMITTEE. At the monthly meeting of the Air Force Relations Committee, the work for the month was reviewed and considered very satisfactory. Up to the present the local branch has forwarded to Wellington, 28 scarves. 16 pulldvlers, 26 mittens. 25 balaclavas, 12 gloves and 9 socks. Also each month a case of foodstuffs, including fruit cakes, ■ short bread, biscuits, barley sugar, butterscotch, ginger nuts, tinned tongues, etc., has been sent. The president in Wellington in ex- - pressing her thanks, stated: “The food- • stuffs are sent every month to the ■ R.A.F. War Comforts Committee, • Berkley Square, London, where a coml mittee of New Zealand women see . that they get to the New Zealand ■ membei's of the Air Force, either in i the field, in hospital, or as prisoners of I I war. The woollen garments are i available to the men going away and ‘ also to men on local aerodromes.” The committee wish to thank the following helpers, also Jenkins' Motors Service for carrying goods to Wellington, members of the Ranfurly Club. Parcels of comforts and donations may be sent to any member of the committee or left at the offices of Messrs Dunderdale and Gray. Perry Street. It was stated that it is not generally known that according to official sources in Washington. U.S.A, the Air Forces in seven of the largest countries in the world are second in numerical strength only to lhe active land forces, the comparative figures being land forces. 16,174,000; air. 1.304.000; navy. 837,000. In the British Empire, the air forces were estimated at. 258.000, as at January. 1940. This figure is being rapidly expanded by the training schemes in Canada. South Africa. Australia and New Zealand.
