FEATHERSTON

ROYAL LIFE SAVING SOCIETY PRESENTATION' OF CERTIFICATES ("Times-Age” Special.) On Saturday night in the Masonic Hall tiie presentiition took place of Certificates, Bronze Medallions and Bars to members of the Featherston branch of the Royal Life Saving Society, gained during the past season. Mr Hayes (headmaster of the school) presented the children with their certificates. Mr Hayes congratulated the members of the society and also Mr Percy Wjitcn, their instructor, on the splendid results gained during the season. On behalf of the pupils Mr Hayes presented Mr and Mrs Wilton with a gift each. In returning thanks, Mr Wilton gave a brief resume of his swimming career. The following is a list of the presentations: — Primary School Certificates: Shirley Jeffreys, Patsy Halpin. Elementary Certificates: Dorothy Raper, Betty Fuge. Nancy Burt, Myra Cole, Phyilis Halton, Muriel Saunders, Mildred Rowles, Prudence Peene, Trevor Buck, Colin Hayes, Graham White, Keith Lang, Lex Halpin, Jack McNamara. Intermediate Certificates: Phyllis Hatton. Myra Cole, Dorothy Raper, Betty Fuge, Nancy Burl, Mildred Rowles, Prudence Peene, Trevor Buck, Colin Hayes, Keith Lang, Lex Halpin, Robert Burt. Bronze Medallions: Noeline Wilton, Phyllis Hatton, Mildred Rowles, Myra Cole. Bai’ to Bronze Medallion: Kevin Hocquard, Clarence Rasmussen, Margaret Foss. Eighteen society’s badges were also presented. GOLF CLUB STABLEFORD COMPETITION. The following were the best cards handed in for the Stabeford competition held on Saturday afternoon:— G. O'Neale, 39; J. McCallum, 39; R. Donald, 39; H. Bloxam, 36. Reduced handicaps:—G. O'Ncale, 5 to 4; J. McCallum. 10 to 8; R. Donald. 11 to 8. Poppy Sales. Sale of poppies in Featherston amounted to £3l. Girl Guide Cup. At the Girl Guide sports on Saturday the Martinborough and Featherston companies competed for the Girl Guides Cup, Featherston retaining it. A “Gift Evening.” A “gift evening" was tendered to Mr. W. Nix and Miss E. Hall, in the Kaiwaiwa Hall, on Saturday night. The Monte Carlo dance was won byMr. D. Burt and Miss M. Harvey. Mr. Nix briefly returned thanks for the gifts. The hostesses were Mesdames Williams and Chisholm.
