The New Zealand university tournament was completed today in fine weather. Auckland won the tournament shield' for the first time since 1931. with 21.? points. Otago, winner of the shield in 1939, was second with 201 points; Canterbury was third with 19J points, and Victoria College fourth with 14 points. Close competition marked the two remaining basketball matches of the university tournament, played at Canterbury University College courts. After its win against Canterbury, the Auckland team became winner of the basketball shield, with a total of 4J points. having won all its matches. Canterbury. Victoria and Otago had Ij points each. The final matches of the university tournament tennis were held at Wilding Park. Though the day was overcast and showed all the signs of rain in the morning, the sky cleared later in the afternoon and the weather was fairly good till after the final match.
