SIX TRAPPED MEN RESCUED.

(By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND This Day

Thirty men were imperilled at 8.15 o'clock this morning when an ammonia compressor, portion of the plant at Abels Ltd, margarine manufacturers in Carlton, Gore Road, blew out and released its deadly fumes. Most, of the men escaped by smashing a window on the ground floor but six were trapped in the second floor from the top of the building. They were saved by members of the city fire brigade using special apparatus. Three were taken to the hospital—William Lloyd, of Herne Bay, Carl Thomas Ekman, of Parnell, and W. Molding, of Parnell. Four others received treatment at the hospital and were discharged.

The actual damage to the plant was --light and it is estimated that £5O will cover the cost of repairs.
