POTATO IMPORTS

CANTERBURY TIRADE. DUNEDIN MERCHANTS INDIGNANT. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) DUNEDIN, September 26. Merchants express some indignation at the tirade of Canterbury potato growers against dealers handling Californian and Canadian patotoes, for they assert that the growers deliberately withheld supplies to force high prices and it was only when the Government arranged importation that the farmers suddenly remembered their stocks. In other words, the merchants claim that the growers are hoist with their own petard.
