TALKING CLOCK
SIXTEEN THOUSAND CALLS A DAY. The talking clock of Paris, which tells you the time to a second when you dial Ode 84-00. received an average of 16,000 calls a day last year from Parisians wanting to know the right time. Wireless listeners in England arc familiar with the deep toned announcement, for at certain times of the day the talking clock is broadcast for a short spell. Tn all. more than G'.000.000 calls were put in for Ode 84 00. the time-teller. Talking clocks have also been set up in Lyons, Marseilles, Nice. Bordeaux and Lille, and others are soon to be installed at Toulouse and Nantes. The talking clock has proved a highly paying proposition, bringing in millions of francs a year in telephone call fees.
