RIFLE SHOOTING

MASTERTON-OPAKI CLUB ANNUAL MEETING OF MEMBERS. , TWO LIFE MEMBERS ELECTED. At the annual meeting of the Mas-terton-Opaki Rifle Club held in the Miniature Rifle Club’s Room, the president (Mr H. H. Mawley) was in the chair. The chairman referred to the outbreak of war and stressed the importance of the club giving every assistance to the territorials, a view that was unanimously endorsed by the members of the club. The following officers were elected for the ensuing year:—Patron, Mr J. McKenzie Senr.; vice-patrons, Messrs F. G. Maunsell and W. James; president, Mr H. H. Mawley; deputy presidents, Messrs H. K. Smith and R. J King; vice-presidents, Messrs J. Robinson, F. Bolton, J. C. Holmes, A. W. Chapman, J. E. MeV. Calwell, W. H Kummer, P. Borthwick, V. E. Donald H. B. Maunsell, C. G. Munro, C. A Whiteman. T. A. Brown, G. Lang, D Donald. H. G. Williams, A. McDonald, G. H. Murdoch, G. Shaw; commit tee. Messrs R. J. King, V. E. Donald J. Bouzaid, H. King, E. M. Wrigley, H K. Smith. C. M. Pickering; ammunition officer and handicapper, Mr R. J King; auditor, Mr G. H. Murdoch' team’s selector, Mr J. McKenzie Senr.: secretary and treasurer, Mr R. V. Mason.

Members referred in eulogistic term, to the services rendered to rifle shooting generally and to the MastertonOpaki Club in particular by Messr: R. J. King and G. Hyde, and it war unanimously decided to elect then life members of the club. Mr King suitably acknowledged the honour conferred. It was agreed to start practice shoots on September 23 and to open the season on October 7. T’he territorials were given the use subject to permission, of the Fair View range and equipment. Sergeant H, V. Donald thanked the club and asked that experienced riflemen assist in the coaching of men to shoot. Several members present expressed their willingness to assist. The meeting terminated with a hearty vote to the chair.
