BOROUGH RATES

PAYMENT ON DISCOUNT DAY. EIGHTY-THREE PER CENT. RECEIVED. Yesterday was the last day on which a discount of five per cent, was allowed for payment of Masterton borough rates. Out of a total rate levy of £37.700, a sum of £29,768 had been paid when the office closed yesterday, stated the Town Clerk, Mr. G. T. O’Hara Smith today. This, together with the rebate allowed, is equal to 83 per cent, of the total rate levied, which means that approximately that percentage of ratepayers have taken advantage of the rebate for prompt payment. Yesterday, the last discount day, over £BOOO was received.
