A German official communique states: “Until 9 a.m., not a single shot had been fired on the Western front. There were no air- raids except that of the British at Wilhelmshaven and Cuxhaven.” The United Press correspondent says an official communique stated that an engagement, understod to be a preliminary manoeuvring of advanced French and German troops, has begun on the Western front. The communique did not indicate any real fighting up to 3.45 p.m. Paris lime. TROOPS IN CONTACT. PENETRATION OF GERMAN TERRITORY. (Received This Day, 9.0 a.m.) NEW YORK, Sept, 5. The Associated Press of America Paris correspondent says it is officially announced that the French forces made contact with the Germans and penetrated German territory. JEWISH SUPPORT UTILISATION OF ALL RESOURCES. ASSURANCE TO BRITAIN. (Received This Day, 12.50 p.m.) LONDON, September- 5. Di- Weizmann, president of the Jewish Agency fox- Palestine, wrote to Mr Chamberlain. The agency is arranging immediately to utilise Jewish manpower, technical ability and resources. Mr Chamberlain replied that he was glad to accept the assurance and pleased to note that Britain can rely on the whole-hearted co-operation of the Jewish agency. MESSAGE TO KING. PALESTINE JEWRY'S BLESSINGS (Received This Day, 11.45 a.m.) JERUSALEM, September 5. Chief Rabbis Hertzog and Uziel have cabled to Mr Chamberlain and asked him to pass on a message to the King: “Heartfelt blessings and fervent prayers of Palestine Jewry for Britain's victory in her heroic stand .against might and fox- ultimate world peace." EXPORTS PROHIBITED DANISH GOVERNMENT DECREE. OVER FIFTY PRODUCTS LISTED. (Received This Day at noon.) COPENHAGEN, September 5. The Government has forbidden the export of ovex- fifty products, including jute goods, margarine, soap, footwear, tyres, tubes and all chemicals. FOREIGN PLANES FIRED ON NEAR AMSTERDAM. BELIEVED TO BE GERMAN. (Received This Day at noon.) ' AMSTERDAM, Septembei- 5. Foreign planes, believed to be German, were fired on early today near the city.
