AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIPS DECIDED AT FEATHERSTON.. WINNERS FOR SEASON. The Wairarapa amateur wrestling championships for the 1939 season were decided at Featherston on Friday night. All the bouts were very even and of a high standard. Three holders retained their t.tles, three did not defend, one of the latter through failure to make the weight, and one, Roy Sutherland, rose from the welter to the middleweight class. The following are the champions in the different classes: — Bantam (8.11), M. Leighton (Featherston). Feather (9.8), D. Jensen (Featherston). Light (10.5), G. Wenden (Featherston). Welter (11.4), H. Chappell (Masterton). Middle, 12.6), R. Sutherland (Masterton). Light-heavy (13.9), R. Reed (Featherston). Heavy (over 13.9), J, H. Dryden (Featherston). The Wellington provincial amateur championships will be held at the Rox Hall, Kilbirnie, at 10 a.m. on Saturday next, and the Wairarapa will be represented in the five heavier classes.
