Skating was opened in the State Theatre on Monday evening and was well attended both in the children's session in the afternoon and at night by the adults when there was a crowded hall. This winter pastime is very popular with the younger generation and judging by the progress made there should soon be many expert skaters in the community. School Holidays. The winter term school holidays will commence on Monday. Schools will break up on Friday. Personals. Mr and Mrs W. Gates, of Dannevirke. were visitors to Carterton yesterday. They arc staying with Mr Gates's brother at Greytown. Mr and Mrs J. Clisl, of Tauranga, who have been on holiday in the South Island, were in Carterton yesterday. They return to Tauranga today. Pipe Band Uniforms. The committee of ladies which has been working assiduously for some months past organising functions to assist in the purchase of uniforms for the pipe band, met yesterday afternoon at the residence of Mrs Ray Hall, Paik Road and finalised arrangements for a function to be held tomorrow evenin" Mrs Hall afterwards entertained the committee at afternoon tea. She was accorded a hearty vote of thanks.
