FEATHERSTON
WOMEN’S INSTITUTE COMPETITION .WINNERS. (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Featherston Women's Institute was held in the Kahutara Hall yesterday afternoon, Mrs McKenna presiding. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames Duffy, Hood, Harvey, Misses L. Hood and E. Harvey. Mrs McKenna welcomed Miss O. Wolters (Carterton) who gave a demonstration on shoulder spray and other floral work. Miss Wolters was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. The members present then went to the school grounds to plant a tree which had been donated in connection with Arbor Day. The competitions resulted as follows: —Marmalade jam: Mrs Siemonek. 1; Mrs Harvey, 2; Mrs Humphries, 3. Juniors: Butter Scotch, J. Hood, 1; L. Hood, 2; E. Harvey, 3. Best bloom: Mrs Pope, 1; Mrs M. Wilson. 2; Mrs Welsh, 3. Mrs McKenna thanked all those who had helped to make the ball the success it was. Afternoon tea was provided. PUBLIC LIBRARY INCREASE IN MEMBERSHIP. The library membership has increased to 208, with the addition of 40 children. Personal. Mr and Mrs Staples left on Monday for a holiday which is to be spent at Pongaroa.
