MR MAIR’S PROSPECTS
THE NEW GOVERNMENT IN N.S.W.
HOPES OF PERIOD OF RESPITE.
SUGGESTED FINANCIAL DILEMMA.
By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright. (Received This Day, 12.20 p.m.) SYDNEY, This Day.
The “Sydney Morning Herald” says Ministers are convinced that the State Government, under Mr A. Mair’s Premiership, is assured of a period of stability, and that Mr E. S. Spooner and his followers will not challenge the Ministry before Christmas.
The “Daily Telegraph” says Mr Mair is faced with a dilemma. He has committed the Government to earmarking the whole of the wages and special income taxation for employment services, which means that he will have to find £2,500,000 to carry on other services which are now financed from wages and special income taxation. These comprise family endowment, charitable relief, widows’ pensions, relief to deserted wives, child maintenance and miscellaneous services.
