General Itagaki, was subjected to much crossquestioning by members of Cabinet at the conference today. Well-informed quarters expect that several similar Cabinet conferences will be held before a decision is made as to whether Japan will join the Axis. FURTHER DELAY IN RESUMING TOKIO TALKS. WAR MINISTER MEETS HIGH OFFICERS. (Received This Day, 9.15 a.m.) TOKIO, August 8. Sir Robert Craigie and the Japanese diplomat, Mr Kato, met for an hour and decided upon further delay in resumption of the talks. General Itagaki called a meeting of high officers of the army after the Inner Cabinet meeting. ALLEGED ESPIONAGE ARRESTS OF TWO CANADIANS • & FOUR CHINESE. (Received This Day, 9.15 a.m.) TOKIO, August 8. Two Canadians and four Chinese have been arrested at Huchow, for alleged espionage on behalf of Britain. TIENTSIN CONDITIONS JAPANESE ASKED TO KEEP ORDER. TIENTSIN. August 8. The British Consul (Mr Jamieson) approached the Japanese Consul, requesting the military to strictly control the anti-British campaign and that a detail of Japanese soldiers should watch over British business premises. The Japanese Consul has not yet replied. BOYCOTT OF BRITISH GOODS LISTS PUBLISHED IN PEKIN. PEKING. August 8. Local papers print lists of the British products which the public is forbidden to buy and name Japanese and German substitutes. LARGE FAMILIES FINANCIAL AID OFFERED. < Received This Day. 9.15 a.m.) TOKIO, August 8. The Government has appropriated 230.D(1i) yen to encourage large families.
