QN the Ist August, an instalment of the Registration Fee (five shillings) became payable by all male persons twenty years of age or over who are ordinarily resident in New Zealand other than those exempt. Every person who is entitled to exemption must complete the appropriate form of application for exemption within seven days after the last day for payment of the instalment. Default in payment of the fee will result in a penalty of sixpence for every month or part of a month that elapses after one month from the due date, with a maximum of 2/6 for each instalment, and may also result in a prosecution. An employer who employs for more than seven days a person who is in arrear with the Registration Fee is liable, on summary conviction, to a fine of £2O. The second instalment of the Social Security charge of one shilling in the pound on income other than salary or wages derived during the year ended 31st March, 1939, by all persons, male and female, ordinarily resident in New Zealand, who have attained sixteen years of age (except persons in receipt of a war pension in respect of total disablement) also fell due on the\same date. A penalty of 10 per cent is incurred on any instalment not paid within one month of the due date. Further information, including details of the classes of persons who are exempt from the Registration Fee, 'may be obtained from any Money Order Office, or from the Commissioner of Taxes, Land and Income Tax Department.
