MAURICEVILLE WEST

WOMEN’S INSTITUTE BUSINESS AT MONTHLY MEETING. (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Mauriceville Women’s Institute was held on Tuesday afternoon. Mrs A. Forsberg presiding over a good attendance of members. After the “Ode and Aspira-' lion.” the President read the Prayer for peace. Correspondence dealing with the Pan Pacific Conference and with the Centennial Celebrations was read and and discussed. It was unanimously decided to ask all members to design a banner and bring same as an entry in a competition at the next meeting. A debate will be held with the Kapauranga Women’s Institute at the September meeting. Mrs Mcßae gave an interesting and instructive demonstration on felt work, and displayed some very beautiful and useful samples of her work. Mrs M. Larsen moved a very hearty vote of thanks to the demonstrator. An amusing competition was won by Mrs Paine with Mrs Cameron second. The competition for the best knitted garment was won by Miss J. Larsen, with Mrs H. Nielsen second and Miss M. Larsen, third. The best bloom competition resulted: —Miss J. Larsen, 1; Miss M. Larsen, 2; and Mrs Cameron, 3. The “golden thread” was carried on by Mrs Forsberg, who gave an interesting talk on a trip to Queenstown. The hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames G. and H. Nielsen. A very happy afternoon was closed with the singing of the National Anthem. Personal. Mrs A. Larsen, Omana, North Auckland was a recent visitor here as the guest of Mrs Mortensen. Mrs J. Christensen accompanied by his daughter of Omana, North Auckland, have left for Wellington after spending a week with relatives here. Mr and Mrs J. E. Mortensen, Palmerston North were recently the guests of Mrs Mortensen. Miss C. Palmer, of Mauriceville, spent the weekend with friends in Hukanui. Mrs I. Pedersen. Te Uri, Ormondville, has been staying with her mother, Mrs Lemberg, Mauriceville.
