The House of Commons, after a stormy debate, approved by 357 votes to 164 the Government’s decision to investigate without delay the question of higher old-age pensions. The Prime Minister. Mi' Chamberlain pointed out that the House of Commons had not yet fully realised the burden of the defence programme and the Government would not lightheartedly add to the load.
