YOUNG FARMERS

WAIRARAPA-PARTY TOURS SOUTH ISLAND. MANY PLACES OF INTEREST VISITED. A party of Wairarapa ..Young Farmers returned on Sunday morning from

a twelve-day tour of the South Island. The main ipoints of interest were Mr J. B. Laidlaw’s Dorset Horn sheep; the Cawthron Institute, Nelson; a trip through

the Buller Gorge; a visit to Franz Josef Glacier; an inspection of the Kanieri gold dredge; a tour of Christchurch, with morning tea at the Sign of the Takahe; a visit to a large shoe factory, and Messrs Wright, Stephenson and Co.’s seed-cleaning plant, and Lincoln College. A very interesting and enjoyable time was spent by all, especially at Franz Josef Glacier, where several of the party went for a plane ride over the glacier. A total distance of just over 750 rpiles was covered by motor car.

At the conclusion of the tour, a small presentation was made by Mr J. Bremner, of the Ballance Club, to Mr W. James, of Masterton, who very ably acted as manager of the party. The car drivers, who carried out their duties very capably, were thanked on behalf of the party by Mr D. McGregor, of Masterton, and by Mr M. Knutson, of Carterton, each driver receiving a small token of appreciation. At the next meeting of the Masterton Young Farmers’ Club, to be held tomorrow night, short talks on the toui will be given by the Masterton members who took part. _____
