On the casting-vote of the Mayor, Mr MacFarlane, the Christchurch City Council last night decided against a committee recommendation that the Minister of Marketing be asked to set up a tribunal to sit in Christchurch and its: the price of milk. A long discussion on the proposal disclosed an unusual party cleavage several Labour councillors criticising' a recommendation of one of their colleagues (Cr .Mabel Howard, who is chairman of the abbatoir, reserves and milk committe). and. several Citizens’ Association councillors voting for it? The principal argument against the recommendation was that a fixed price might jeopardise the council'.-: Metropolitan Milk Bill, which will come before Parliament in the coming session.
