VOTING IN WILMOT
LATE MR. LYONS’S SEAT. COUNTING TO TAKE SOME DAYS.' By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. LAUNCESTON, May 27. Polling took place on Saturday for the Wilmot Federal seat rendered' vacant by the death of Mr Lyons, the late Prime Minister. There are six candidates, Mr. L. Spurr (Labour), Mr. M. Weston (Labour), Mr. J. Guy, Mr. D. Cameron and Mr. C. Parsons (all United Australia Party members), and Mr. J. Watson (Independent). The contest is likely to be close between Mr. Spurr and Mr. Guy, but only a small proportion of the votes out of the 20.000 on the roll have so far been counted. The result is not likely to be known for some days.
NARROW MAJORITY. FEDERAL BY-ELECTION TN QUEENSLAND. BRISBANE, May 27. The recount in the Griffiths Federal by-election resulted in the majority of the Labour candidate, Mr. Conelan, being reduced from 18 to 8. He thus won the seat from Mr. McCowan (United Australia Party), who again announced his intention of challenging the poll in the Court of Disputed Returns.
