SKINS AND HIDES
WELLINGTON SALES. SHEEPSKIN PRICES HIGHER. Sheepskins were dearer and hides were generally firm at the sale held yesterday by the Wellington brokers. Sheepskins: All grades were keenly competed for, and prices showed an improvement on last sale’s prices of |d a lb for most descriptions. Hides: Light ox, par to id dearer; other ox unchanged. Cow, kip and calfskins were unchanged.
The range of prices is as follows: — Dry sheepskins: Halfbred, 6|d to BJd; fine crossbred, Bjd to 9d; medium crossbred, 7d to 9d; coarse crossbred, s‘d to 8:]d; half-wools, 4£d to B£d; quarter-wools, 31d to 73d; pelts, 2-? d to 4 l d. “Hides: Ox, 331 b to 441 b, 5 3-8 d to 53d; 451 b to 521 b, 4 3-8 d to 6Jd; 531 b to 591 b, 5 5-8 d to 6id; 601 b to 691 b, 53d to 6jd; 701 b and over, to 7d; cow, 331 b to 391 b, 41d to 53d; 401 b to 481 b, 3 3-8 d to 5 7-8 d; 491 b and over, 5d to 6d; kip, 251 b to 321 b, 4£d to 64d; 171 b to 241 b, 5d to 7]d; yearling, 111 b to 161 b, 53d to 83d; calf, 61b to 81b, B£d to 9 l-8d; lib to 51b, 6 l-8d to 10 3-Bd. Tallow: In casks, etc, 8s 6d to 9s 6d. Sundries: Cow ' tails, 7d to lOd; horse hair, 93d to 213 d.
