In the House of Commons the Parliamentary Secretary to the Admiralty, Mr Geoffrey H. Shakespeare, replying to further questions concerning H.M.S. Endeavour, the Admiralty survey ship, said 32 members of the vessel’s complement of 134 had been punished by warrant. It was anticipated that the present ship’s company would leave New Zealand in September. The cirjustified the most urgent inquiry and the Commodore on the New Zealand station had been asked to investigate the allegations of harsh conditions in the service.
