COSY THEATRE

“BEHIND THE HEADLINES.” ■ Lee Tracy's fast-talking, semi-com-edy characterisations have made him a world-wide favourite. This popularity is due for considerable enhancement as a result of the sparkling performance in “Behind the Headlines, his latest vehicle, which will be shown tonight at the Cosy Theatre. In the made-to-order role of a brash and intrepid radio reporter who makes his way into perilous situations with his tiny microphone and a pocket-sized short wave transmitter, and sends out broadcasts at the risk of his life, Tracy gives one of his best portrayals.' The film offers real novelty in its plot and situations. The theme of the story revolves around the rivalry between newspaper reporters and those of the radio, who continually scoop the journalistic group through getting their broadcasts on the air at once. Philip Huston, one of the screen’s best young actors, heads the supporting cast, as a lad who has inherited a million dollar newspaper, and Donald Meek, Paul Guilfoyle, George Irving, Tomb Kennedy and Gaylord Pendleton all turn in noteworthy portrayals. Blending a dramatic murder mystery with a continuously hilarious comedy plot in unique fashion, “We’re On The Jury,” the other attraction, is an highly entertaining picture. The mystery forms the background, and the comedy rolls over it in waves of laughter as the story progresses to its surprise finish. In the course of the efforts to solve the mystery, plenty of unexpected crises occur, and the outcome remains in doubt until the fastmoving finale. Helen Broderick, long acclaimed Broadway’s foremost comedienne, plays the resourceful jury-wo-man with Victor Moore sharing top honours with her as a well-meaning real estate salesman who is also drafted as one of the talesmen.
