FIGHTING IN CHINA
JAPANESE ATTACKED AT MANY POINTS TOWNS TAKEN NEAR CANTON. BODY OF INVADERS SURROUNDED (By Telegraph—Press Association • WELLINGTON. This Day. The following cablegrams have been received by the Chinese ConsulateGeneral in New Zealand: — "In central Kwantung our troops counter-attacked the enemy and recaptured a number of strategic points on the Canton-Hankow railway, including Sinkai and Kongchuen, which are only 11 miles from the city of Canton. Tn the west river sector, our troops recaptured Kwanyao. Talangkiu and Sanshiumien, forcing the enemy to retreat to Namhoi and Samshui. In the Chungfar sector, Shekkok and Youngchuen. two strategic points on the south bank of Taipingcheong were also re-taken by our troops. "In southern Kwangtung. our troops fiercely counter-attacked the enemy and recaptured Kongmoon and Sunwoi. killing and capturing a large number of the enemy. "Several squadrons of our air force yesterday heavily bombed the enemy line at Samshui and inflicted heavy casualties. "In the province of Kiangsi. we repeatedly attacked the enemy at Koan, and compelled them to retire northward. Yesterday 500 enemy troops forced their way across the Shiu River; they were surrounded by our troops and were completely annihilated. “We crossed the Shiang River in central Hupeh and recaptured several strategic points. The enemy at Chungshiang have been surrounded by our troops and are desperately resisting and waiting for relief.”
