GOLF
CENTENARY TOURNAMENT. £2OOO IN PRIZE MONEY. | (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON. This Day. I The council of the New Zealand Golf Association, al its monthly meeting yesterday, decided to offer £2OOO in prize money at three open golf tournaments to be held in the Dominion this year in connection with the Centennial celebrations. It was decided that the prize money should go exclusively to the six leading professional players in each of the three open tournaments, as any amateurs who happen to gain places will receive trophies. The first tournament will be held in Auckland toward the end of October, and this will be followed by an open tournament in Christchurch immediately afterward. The third open tournament will be held on the Miramar links in Wellington about the middle of November and at this the New Zealand open championships and the New Zealand amateur championships will be decided.
This liberal allocation of prize-money is expected to induce many overseas professionals to visit New Zealand this year.
