WELFARE LEAGUE
* MEETING AT MASTERTON. The monthly meeting of the Women’s National Welfare League was held at the Midland Hotel yesterday afternoon. Those present were Miss Kummer (in the chair), Mesdames S. Fletcher, R. C. Drummond, L. Hunter, G. H. Collie, S. J. Munn, H. P. Harrison, T. F. Watson, S. Coradine, A. W. McKenzie, W. Andrew, F. Daniell, J. B. Carruthers, A. Latimer, G. G. Tolhurst, S. L. P. Free, S. N. Kilgour, Misses Beiliss, Wilson and Boddington. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames T. Jordan, P. J. Borthwick, A. Corskie, A. W. Charleson, H. E. Pither, H. Brisco, H. P. Glen, E. J. Coleman, Misses Guild and J.McLaren.
Mrs Tolhurst reported that two visits had been paid to the Public Hospital during September. Flowers, fruit, reading matter, etc., were given to the inmates of No. 6 ward. The visitors for October 11 are Mesdames S. Fletcher, G. G. Tolhurst and A. Latimer, and for October 25 Mesdames Drummond, Carruthers and Miss Beiliss.
Mrs Munn reported that a visit would be paid to the Buchanan Home on October 13. The matter of cars, etc., was left in the hands of the convenor.
Mrs McKenzie reported that two cases were assisted in connection with the Social Welfare work. Groceries and clothing had been distributed. Mr W. Russell, of the Wairarapa Power Board, was introduced by Miss Kummer (president) and he gave a very interesting address on the use of electrical appliances. Mr Russell also demonstrated with a Refrigadaire. Miss Kummer thanked Mr Russell for having attended the meeting and given such an instructive demonstration.
Votes of thanks were passed to Miss Wyber and Mrs C. H. Vallance.
