TENNIS TIPS

HINTS BY HELEN WILLS MOODY,

1. See that your movements on the court are free and unrestrained. Try to imagine that your knees and elbows have just been oiled. 2. Keep your eye on the ball all the time. This is a very obvious piece of advice, but nevertheless one that is often neglected. 3. Allow the whole weight of the body to rest on the front of the feet. This does not mean, however, that you should stand on your toes. 4. Between strokes let the tip of your racket rest in your left hand. It gives a little rest and better control of the ball.

5. Let your racket follow each stroke all. out. Trying to break its impetus, tires the player. 6. If you are forced into a corner, consider what is the best position to place the ball so as to improve your position. Do not hit the ball aimlessly in the hope that luck will make it a winning stroke.

7. Always try to anticipate where your opponent intends to place the ball. It is a good thing to keep an eye on. his or her position, the direction in which his or her body is turned, and which way his or her head faces. 8. If the game is getting faster and faster breathe deeply—right from the midriff. You will not get out of breath then, and you will remain calm. 9. If your opponent is trying to force the game simply calm him with an ordinary loose stroke. As a rule he willrush at the ball to win with a hard stroke, but. only succeed in knocking it into the net or outside the court. 10. Vary your play. Vary your balls, your position, and your movements so that your opponent cannot become too familiar with your style. 11. Never give up a ball. Even if it may seem impossible to return a ball a try may very well be successful.
