CHALET REFUGE

HIGHEST IN THE WORLD. The French Alpine Club will this summer open a refuge hut at Les Bosses, on Mont Blanc, at an altitude of 14,376 feet, that will be the highest in the world. This hut has been specially constructed, and was on show during the Paris Exhibition last year. It is built of an alloy of aluminium, and it has a horizontal trap under the floor so that snow cannot prevent entrance being made. The metal retains whatever heat there is to be got from the sun’s rays during the day and communicates it to the interior, where it persists long into the night. Another record will be the highest hotel in the Alps, which will be on the Aiguille du Gouter, 12,585 feet high, and will be opened by Georges Orset, a well known guide.
