CRASH IN AUCKLAND STREET. MOTOR VEHICLES DAMAGED. (By Telegraph—Press Association. AUCKLAND, June 1. Scores of pies and other small goods intended for sale in city tearooms during the lunch hour were strewn across Khyber Pass Road as the result of a head-on collision between a light delivery van and a tramcar a few minutes after noon. The van and the cab of the tram were extensively damaged, but neither driver was. hurt. Owned by Hill Brothers, Ltd., of Newmarket, and driven by Mr R. Beeby, the van was carrying provisions to the city. The collision occurred when Mr Beeby was passing a small car driven in the same direction by Mr H. B. Hughes. Practically the entire right-hand side of the van was ripped off. The door was torn away and thrown over the van and Mr Hughes’s car to the road beyond. Pies, cakes, sandwiches, beetroot and hard-boiled eggs carried on trays within the van were hurled in all directions, and glass from the door and broken woodwork was scattered widely. Mr Hughes's car was also struck during the impact and was pulled upon the footpath nearby with a dented mudguard.

Although damaged, the tram proceeded on its outward journey to Epsom. The van was towed to a garage.
