A black cat belonging to Councillor V. J. Clow, of Sandy, Bedfordshire, which was accidentally buried in a bin when half a ton of chaff was emptied into it. emerged alive after 19 days, and although very weak was nursed back to health with milk. A stone statue of the Virgin Mary, once the figurehead of a Portuguese schooner, was seen floating down the River Hooghly one Easter Day about 100 years ago. It was taken out of the water and placed in the Roman Catholic Church at Bandel, Bengal, and thousands go annually to pray at its feet. No one can say why it floated, but requests by pilgrims are supposed invariably to be answered if made there.
