London, February 12. In the House of Commons, the debate on Mr Parnell’s amendment to the Address-in-Reply, denying that disorder existed in Ireland in districts where rents bad been suitably reduced, was resumed and concluded. On being put to a division, the amendment was rejected by a majority of 106 in a full House. The voting was as follows :—Ayes 246, noes 852.
The Vatican will shortly despatch to Pekin a convention for the purpose of assuring complete liberty and security to the Roman Catholic population in China.
It is understood that a secret treaty has been concluded between Germany and France.
A large Russian naval squadron is now being assembled in Japanese waters. The preliminary negotiations between Kiamil Pasha t the Vizier, and the Bulgarian representatives relating to the settlement of the Bulgarian difficulty, have hitherto been without result, M. ZankoS having insisted on extreme conditions, notably that neither a Russian general, the Russian Minister of War, not the Russian Ambassador shall partake in the negotiations.
Australian tallow—Beef, average quality, 25s fid ; muttou, 30s. New Zealand frozen mutton, prime quality, is realising 4Jd per pound.
The wheat market is quiet, end quotations are nominally unchanged. One Australian cargo haa been sold at 37s 3d. For prompt shipment sellers are asking S7s. The wool market is irregular, and the recent advance has been partially lost. Only the best classes of combings, merinos, and crossbreds maintain the highest rates. bYDN»Y, February 13 Eleven supporters of the new Ministry were elected yesterday, making a total of 60 Ministerialists and 13 of the Opposition who have been returned to the Legislative Assembly.
In addressing a meeting at Wallsend yes. terday, Sir Henry Parkes was booted by the populace, aud had to obtain police protection.
The meetings ol the Qreytown Improvement Society are of an interesting character and calculated to instruct and benefit the members. Last evening there was a good attendance and in addition to recitations, songs, readings, etc., an address was given illustrating the different methods of communication between savage and civilized races; the triumphs of later years with the telegraph and the telephone were dwelt upon and their working explained. Daring the evening the young people were regaled with a good supply of fruit. The election of a committee brought the meeting to a close.
