The Window Breaking Case.

To the Editor of the Standard. Sib,— Allow me space for a few remarks in reference to the report in your last issue of the case heard in the R.M. Court held in Greytown last Wednesday, the 24th, Hebley v. Burch, fur window breaking, in which you state defendant was fined £1 and costa and admonished by the Bench upon the gravity of the offence. Now, Sir, to the outsid* public the affair would appear a mere trivial matter, but to my thinking its gravity deserves more than a mere passing notice in order to effectually put a stop to such danger* ons practices. The facts are, as 1 Hebley'a windows were broken in the night ; the offender was known; the constable did not take the matter in hand, and to make a criminal offence of the affair, as he ought to have done, and as it appears, Mr Hebley took the case in bind himself for bis own and the public’s welfare and safety ; and as the sequel shows, secured the Magistrate’s approval and also a richly deserved rebuke to the defendout, with costs to the latter including the fine yon mentioned, a sum of over £8 sterling and a warning from his Worship that it ever be appeared in Court again he would inflict the full penalty. Hoping the publication of this letter may be a warning to evil doors, and apologising for trespassing upon so much of your valuable space. I am, dte., Watchman.
