Concert at Tauherenikau.
Another pleasant evening was spent st the Tauherenikau school room on Friday last, when • several persons kindly assisted in a concert, the proceeds of which are to be devoted to prizes lor the school children. The children attending the school, under the careful tuition of Mrs Heaney, sang very nicely the songs ” Welcome,” " The Miller of the Dee,” and ” The Three Wise Men and Women; ” the last was heartily encored and the audience were well pleased with the efforts of the young people. Miss Gooding gave two piano solos, her “ Signal March ’’ being encored. Mr C. Udy sang “ I’m in Love with My Darling Flo," and “ Beautiful Nell,” the latter song winning a recall. Mr George Wilkie gave as a reading ” Aurelia’s Unfortunate Young Man.” The exercises of Miss A Merlet with the Indian Clubs was a most pleasing exhibition of skill, and it is to be hoped that this healthful exercise will be taken up more by the youug people. Miss Merlet was rapturously applauded. The Misses Alice and Oliva Fuller contributed two piano duets, and had to repeat the second. Miss M. Cotter sang " Apart,” and later on in the evening rendered " Robin Adair,” in so pleasing a manner as to be called back. Mr Baillle sang ” Jack’s Come Home ” ; Miss E. Gooding gave a recitation ; Mrs Heaney played a piano solo, and Miss E. Dunn gave a recitation. The efforts of all who took part were much appreciated by the audience.
