The Wool Market.
It appears that many European and American purchasers of colonial wools visit Sydney and Melbourne to make their purcnases instead of buying in London. On account of this change in the condition of the wool trade, Mr F. L Barker, stock, station, and commission agent, Pitt-street, Sydney, has written to a friend in New Zealand, pointing out the advantages which this change may have for New Zealand wool growers. He says it might pay New Zealand wool-growers to give the Sydney market a trial, and adds: “ We have now many buyers from America, France and Germany, besides regularly* established purchasers from home, and prices are very satisfactory, and not so dependent as of yore upon London quotations. I believe most of the New Zealand wools are a little coarse, and this description is in demand. I sold a clip ef crossbred, fairly line, at 9d to Did per lb in the grease.” MiBarker suggests the advisability of sending samples of the various classes 11 New Zeal md wool to Sydney for the purpose of testing the market there as compared with that which obtains in New Zealand. If such samples were sent Mr Barker promises to send by return of post his opinion as to what he thinks the wool would fetch in the Sydney market.
