Volunteering.

WELLINGTON GUARDS t GREYTOWN RIFLES. A match between the above was fired at Grevtowu yesterday. The weather waa very stormy at the commencement, but the rain cleared off, and a strong cross wind continued during the match. Notwithstanding the very unfavorable weather lor shooting, several good scores were made on both eidee, ending in a victory fir the home team. Color Sargt Wiilason made the top score with 81 out of a possible 106. The following are the scores Wellington Guards.

Major Loveday made a oaat speech; he complimented the Greytown men on their good shooting upon that occasion and although the Greytown men bad gained the laurels in this match, he felt certain that his men with himself, had enjoyed their day’s onting and would be pleased to meet the Greytown Volunteers again shortly on the Guard's range. He regretted that his company bad not had more practice on an open range such as that at Papawai, but some day he trusted that defect might be remedied ; he thanked Captain Cameron and the officers and team representing the Greytown Bifles for their kindly reception, and be trusted that the local company would give the Guards an opportunity of returning the compliment. Captain Cameron on behalf of the Grey- : town Bifles.suitably acknowledged the compliment paid his men by Major Loveday, and expressed a hope for a return match upon some holiday. After three cheers upon each respective side for their opponents the men left the range. It may be mentioned that nearly all the members of the Guard's team wore marksmen’s badges.
