Greytown Horticultural and Industrial Society
The annual general meetog of persons interested in this Society was held at the Borough Council Chambers, Greytown, on Saturday, Mr T Porritt in the chair.
The secretary (Mr A. L. Webster) read the minutes of the last general meeting. His Worship the Mayor F. H. Wood, Esq , sent a written apology for bis unavoidable absence. Mr W. 0. Nation and other members of committee also sent apologies regretting their enforced absence.
The balance sheet and annual report were read and adopted. (The balance sheet will be published in the Standard on Wednesday next). On the proposition of Mr Webster, seconded by Mr Hebley, Mr W. C. Buchanan was reelected President of tna Society. Messrs H. H. Jackson and Coleman Phillips were re-elected Vice-presidents. On the proposition of Mr Porritt, seconded by Mr Webster, Mr 0. Higgins was appointed secretary. The-following gentlemen were appointed a committee for the ensuing year ;—Messrs St George, W Brooks, W Sheet, G Bollard, Johnson, W C Nation, Dr Bey, J Hebley, W Udy, KG Welsh, B Kimberley, T Eempton, jun , and F Banatt.
Messrs Porritt, St George, and Rev W T Western were appointed stagers. The judges wire elected as follows Messrs Everitt, Viles (Masterton), Spearink, Beard, Braithwaite, MeShane, A Matthews and H H Jackson. For fancy work—ldeadames J Tally. P H Wood, and Western. Penmanship—Messrs Porritt, St George, and Black.
Messrs St George, Hebley, F Barratt, and Nation were appointed a sub committee to meet on Wednesday night to revise the programme and report at a general meeting of (the committee to be held on Saturday night next at the Council Chambers at 7 30.
It was resolved to hold the next Spring Show on Thursday, December 9th, 1886.
A cordial vote of thanks was rendered to the late secretary Mr A. L. Webster, for bis services in the past. A vote of thanks to the chair concluded the proceedings.
Several members of the committee after the meeting expressed a desire to see a poultry branch attached to the forthcoming Spring Show. It was considered by them that some excellent exhibits could be secured and it will be the subject of discussion at the committee meeting on Saturday.
