THE GRAND ANNUAL SHOW Under the Auspices and Directions of the WAIRARAPA & EAST COAST PASTORAL AND AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY Will be held on the SOCIETY’S SHOW GROUNDS. CARTERTON, ON WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 3,1886. THE SHOW Will include Horses, Cattle. Sheep, Pig»* Implements, Farm and Dairy Produce, Vehicles and Industrial Exhibits. The Society will, as in previous years, offer about fitly Gold and Silver Medals, as well as cash prizes in each of the above stated sections of Exhibits, and in addition hereto a large number of Valuable Special Prizes in cash and in plate have been promised, bringing the total amount fully up to the average of the last three year* l . Winners of medals will have the option cf taking in lieu thereof £1 cash for Silver Medals, and £2 for Gold Medals. A Leaping Match, a Shearing Match, and a trial of Sheep Dogs will take place during the afternoon. Programmes and Prize Lists giving full information as to conditions of entry, regulations of judging and and all other details, are now being prepared, and will be published and circulated shortly. Arrangements will be made to run SPECIAL TRAINS At reduced retea, also to have the Show Day Proclaimed a Bank and General Holiday throughout the Valley. Intending Exhibitors are informed that entries close on SATURDAY, the 2Srd October, 1886, at Noon, either at the Secretary’s Office, Carterton, or at the offices of Messrs R. Brown and Co, Masterton, F. H. Wood, and Co, Oreytown, and J. D. Oakly, Festherston, and that no entries can be received after that date. All communications in reference to the Show addressed to the Secretary at Carterton, either by letter or telegram, will be promptly attended to. Admission to the Show Ground—Members free; non members, before noon, 2s 6d ; after noon Is. For the purpose of affording more adequate encouragement to certain classes of Exhibits, such aa DOGS, POULTRY. PIGEONS, INDUSTRIES. Massey, Esq., Timaru; sir* old Knettingly, by Soudd; dam Tournament RAPID ROAN is , out of the trotting mare Fidget, imported by James Stark, Esq., from Tasmania. RAPID HOAR is brother to the famous trotting mare Nelly. RAPID ROAN has only been shown fire times, and has taken two first and three second prizes. He is a very fast trctter; has firstclass action, and a splendid temper. RAPID ROAN stood in Timaru and Temuka districts, for five years; and has left the best roadsters and carriage horses in South Canterbury. For terms—Future Advertisement, All fees for above payable by P.N. at first service; made payable Ist January, 18S7. Good paddocks provided. A charge of la per week will be made.

The Pare Clydesdale Stallion “AVON” AVON is a bay horse with black points, and stands 17 hands, with «of bona and hair, come of a great family. His dam waa sold at 80 guineas when good mares were sold at a fourth of that price. She is out of a Blackleg mare—one of a family of four, out ef the same dam, and the quartette, by Renfrew Jock, were the four best horses ever bred in the Oamaru district. AVON, by Avon Chief (160, N.Z.5.8.), bred by Wm Boag, Esn., Fendaltou, near Christchurch, out of his famous prize mare Grace Darling (36), by Prince of Kilbride, imported (662*) Grace Darling by Prince Charlie, imported (I and 626*). Grace Darling was the best mare that ever etcod in New Zealand. She has been first and Champion at Christchurch many times, beating the great Maggie Craig, Champion of Scotland. Sne was first at Dunedin in her claas and Champion of the yard, in fact her career in the ring is Unprecedented. AVON'S dam, Gipsy, by Renfrew Jock (136), im« ported from Victoria j g sire Renfrew, imported from Scotland; g dam Jess, by Blackleg, imported from Scotland. Renfrew Jock’s dam Hose, by Cowden Lad a famous Clydesdale, imported from Scotland by the l»te David Nesbitt. Renfrew' Jock was a most successful show horse. Before leaving Victoria be took many firsts, and he was first 3 years in succession in Oamaru, Timaru, and Dunedin, and Champion of the yard as well. From this history breeders will recognise that they have in Avon not only a horse of >;ood parts, but an Entire of good lineage, a nutter altogether different from a good looking horse. The groat point in horse breeding is to have hj sire connected with good families of undoubted chartu ior. In th - one esse the block will be uniformly good, while iu the other case individuals may surpss ;, hut the general character of the stock ?fill bo inferior and disappointing.
