Kaitara School Committee

The Kaitsra School Committee met last Saturday evening. Present -Messrs Ward (chairman), Wood, Mclntyre, Johnson and Knapp. Mr H. Morrison was unable to attend on account of the sudden death of a relative. The accounts of Messrs Waite, St George, and Wakelin were authorised to be paid (or various small amounts. It was ■greed to give-Mr Waite £2 per annum, Jane Murphy’s tender for cleaning school, <tc , for £5 8* was accepted. Correspondence was read from the Board assuring the committee that no disregard was intended to be paid to them, but that the Board had not written in certain matters to the committee because it was believed that the course taken by the Board was agreeable to tbe committee. Miss Ward wrote asking tbe committee to represent to the Board that she found the work very heavy, every school day having to work a little extra in teaching backward scholars in the dinner hour, <tc., and working three honrs a day in addition to four days a week in preparing for the pupil teachers annual ex. animation. The teacher said that Miss Ward had been obliged to go borne on account of indisposition on Friday afternoon, and on further consideration the committee thought it would be well to discontinue tbe extra work till a reply conld be received from tbe Board. Tbe secretary was instructed to write to tbe Board. It was also decided to enquire why there was such a difference iu the capitation grant (or the March and Jane quarters there being scarcely any difference in tbe attendance. The amounts were £5 12a fid for March quarter and £4 13s 9d for Jane quarter. It was decided to write to certain parents and guardians giving them noties that if they did not send their children more regularly they woold be ptooeeded against according to the Act.
