The Great Barrier Murder.

Sydney, October 11. A man and woman, supposed to be Penn, Cafiery’s accomplice, and Lizzie Graham, who was taken from tbe Barrier Island, have been arrested at Kempsey, a town on tbe Maoleay River, 280 miles north east of Sydney. . , From Sydney papers it appears that Caffrey was cleverly captured by Constable May while crossing in a punt from Sleep Creek, where he had been employed painting a bridge. May was disguised as a swagsman. Caffrey stated that be bad promised himself that no man should ever take him alive, and gives Constable May credit lor the way he acted at the time of the arrest in taking him completely o ffhis guard. Had he known that May was a constable he would have shot him. Constable May is deserving of great credit (or the clever manner in which ho arrested this desperate criminal single handed. Caffrey was, at the time of the arrest, armed with a loaded six chambered revolver. This ia tbe second murderer Constable May has arrested. In August last year he detected the murderer of a man named Matterson at Caff’s Harbor, and arrested the murderer, Matthew Fiske, who was found guilty, and was executed at Grafton last December. Constable May was formerly in the New Zealand police at luveroargill, and then in Dunedin. Auckland, October 11.
