From Working Men’s Club, per Cr Varnbam, also asking permission to erect a lamp. The Mayor said that they could grant the request, but he did not see how they could bind their successor* to agree to a removal at any indefinite time should the applicants desire to remove the Isinp posts, bat no doubt if such an application for removal ahonld at any future time come before the Council, that they might favour the request. A suggestion of Cr Varuham’s that Mr Buchanan also use his influence wss not accepted, the Mayor saying that it wonld place their member in an invidious petition, and Or Udy saying it was too near the time for another election.

The Mayor said the River Board should acquiesce in taking part in the deputation; the Borough Council could not taka it entirely on their own shoulders.

Or Cameron asked what would be the portion of the £B4 due from the Council.

The Mayor said that was not yet settled, but the River Board’s portion would probably be about £ll.

Cr Smith said it wonld be far more prefer able to have a personal interview with the Commissioner and get the finally settled.
