Supreme Court.
The Criminal Sessions of tbs Supreme Court were opened at Wellington on Monday before the Chief Juetioe.
William Templeton, alias Woods, alias Piper, was arraigned on a charge that be did, on the 20th of September, enter the Empiie Hotel and steal therefrom six coats, six waistcoats, twelve pain of troneen, and two suits of boys’ clothes, the whole of the value of £8 8s 9d, the property of Robert Sutherland. The jury found a verdict of not guilty of burglary but guilty of receiving property, knowing it to be stolen. Sentenced to two years’ imprisonment with hard labor.
Benjamin Hobbina waa charged with the larceny of a watch, a pooketbook, and £9 l?g 6d in money, from the person of Robert Kershaw, at Masterton, on the 2nd of August last. The jury acquitted the prisoner. James Mitchell alias M’Eeuzie was charged with burglariously entering the premises of Henry James Freeman, Manners street, end stealing a quantity of jewellery of the value of £807145. He was further charged with having the said goods in his possession knowing them to have been stolen. Evidence was given of the arrest of the prisoner at Feat hers ton, with the stolen property in his poe« session. Sentenced to five years’ penal servitude.
The Crown Prosecutor announced that no indictment would be sent to the Grand Jury in the case of Arthur J Hoskins, libel, Marcus H Weston for altering a cheque drawn by T. E. Prise of Masterton, waa acquitted.
