The Timaru Poisoning Case.
The exhumation of Captain Cain's body took place at Timain on Monday night. At •i o'clock the grave-shgger commenced to clean ont the grave and the work was not completed until 7 o clock. Dining lias time it wa« raining heavily, and the grave was, in consequence, partly tilled with water. The sight at the grave was a ghastly one, aud the mght being a fearfully 'lark one, adJed fjtsh horror to the scene. '1 he business of raising the coffin was commenced at a few minutes after It o'clock, and it took an hoar of very bard work to complete the task, as. owing to the iron railings and stone round the grave, it was found impossible to make the hole large enough to get the coffin ont easily, and it took the undertaker and bis hve assistants, the grave digger, aud four of the police force an boar s hard work to get the coffin out of the grave and into the cart, which was in attendance daring the time. There were gathered round the giave, watching the proceedings, Inspector Brobam, Messrs White, Perry, Kinoerney, Drs Maclntyre. Hogg, Lovegrove, and Stewart, and Professor Ogstoo, and two representatives of the press. After the body was placed in the cart, aud taken to the morgue attached to the Hospital, a post mortem was made by Professor Ogston and Dr Hogg, Drs Lovegrove, Macintyri, and Stewart being also present. The Professor found the body very mneh decomposed, aud took out portions of the brain, liver, kidney, rectum, and other parts of the intestines, leaving really little but bone and skin in the coffin. These are to be conveyed to Dunedin for analysis by Professors Ogstoo and Black. It took about half an hoar, and the coffin and its contents were then removed and relaid in the grave.
