Board of Education.

The monthly meeting of the Board oi Education was held ou Wednesday morning. Mr Charles Bary and other teachers asked the Board to deduct from their salaries the amounts of their insurance premiums. The Board decided not to interfere in the matter. A letter was read from Mr Frank Moore, asking the Board to make the usual grant to a school which has just been opened at Glenburn, East Coast, under Miss Anna Hill Roberston. The application was granted. The Kaitara Committee wrote, complaint ug that they bad not been properly treated by the Board. Replies to a letter which they had seut to tne Board bad oot been received, aod they bad not been consulted with regard to the teacher’s residence. The Secretary ct the Board explained that a difficulty bad arisen in regard to this committee, inasmuch as the teacher was also secretary to the committee, and when he wrote to Wellington it was difficult to know whether be wrote a* the master or as secretary. The chan man stated that the master (Mr Wakeliu) had been requested to cease acting aa secretary. The Board resolved that the committee should be informed that they can have the rent of the old residence leased by Mr D. Henderson.

An application by the Waihenga Committee for n vote for putting up a mantel piece aud doing some paperhanging. was declined owing to the want of funds.

M. Do Mey, Gymnastic Instructor to tlia Board, Hubmitted a report ou the work dona by him in the Wairarapa since his appointment. The writer concluded his report by requesting the Board to allow him, as usual, to visit the Wairarapa schools every ten weeks, in order that ho might be able to report satisfactorily at the end ot the year. Dr Newman urged that M. De Mey’s salary should bo increased, but the Board decided that the funds would not permit this to ba done at present. It was resolved that the Chairman should arrange M. De Siej's movements in the Wairarapa.

The following appointments were made Master at Parkvale, Mr C A Hichards ; assistant at Featberstou, Miss Kate Cundy, to aet until the end of the year only ; assistant at Fahiatua. Miss lleese ; master at the Taite, Mr J II Brann, promoted hum CUtevillo. The applications tor the position of teacher at Taueru and assistant at Masterton were referred to a committee consisting of the Chairman, Dr Newman, and the Rev J. Patters.in, and it was decided to advertise for applications for the vacancy at Clateville.
