The Mormon Mission in New Zealand.
On Monday last Mr William Paxmau, tho P.uddmit of tho Australasian Mission of the Litter Day Saints arrived in Greytown. He has only lately arrived from Utah, the city of the Saints, and is on a tour through New Zealand, laboring on behalf of tho Church he is identified with. Whomever opportunity presents he will expound the articles of their faith, though the mission for the time being is conducted principally among the Maoris. Mr Paxman informs us that there aro 23 elders of tho Church in Now Zealand, and that they are laboring most successfully among tho Native race. The reformation in life and tho abstinence from drink and other vices is most marked. Elders Newby and Davies are carrying on the work in the Wairarapa, and on Sunday last thero was a conference at Te Ore Ore, when the work was reviewed and steps taken to carry it on with renewed activity. In the course of conversation our representstive asked Mr Paxman it the suggestion made by Elder Greenwood before the conference in Utah that the Saints should buy up the King country and migrate to New Zealand was entertained. Mr Paxman replied that he was not aware of such a proposal having been made, and in the course of the remarks which followed he said there was not the slightest probability of the Saints yielding to the persecutions which they had been subjected to in America, and therefore they did not think of removing from the Salt Lake.
