NEW SOUTH WALES v. WAIRARAPA. This match ni played on Monday at Master! on, The Star gays about 500 people attended to witness the contest. On the two teams appearing, the Sydney men had every appearance of being the heaviest team. The ground was in perfect order, and the weather everything that coaid be deeired. The ampiree were W. After a few more kicks Baamber pul the ball oat of bounds near the Sydney oppouenta 25yds and a series of scrimmages ensued. The ball was got clear by Sydney kicking bard and W. Perry missed, giving the Reds a great advantage. Scrimmages ensued, and the Green worked op to the centre, Webster playing up well. Here ensued a close contest, the Greens playing decidedly the beat, and gradually worked their opponent* back, by splendid dribbling and paaaing. Most noticeable was the passing of J. Perry, Webster, and Tully, who brought the ball right on the Sydney line. Serimmagee ensued amidst great excitement, bnt the Reds gradually gained and worked back to the 25yds distance. A considerable amount of loose play and scrimmages ensued, Whatman, Beard, and J, Ferry doing good work for their side. Weaver, Sydney, made rather a good run but was collared, and Whatman getting the ball made a clean run, and finding himself outpaced, kicked the ball out of bounds by the 25yds flag, when time was sailed. In the second spell the ball was kicked off by a Sydney player. Roydhouse, back, mailed and the Sydney men following closely np, got within ten yards of the Wairarapa tench line. Play was confined to this locality fora time, the Sydney men playing desperately until Whatman turned the scales by working the ball np and after some good play on the part of the Greene it was worked out of bounds st Sydney’s 25yds. The ball being thrown ont, some scrimmages followed. Hounslow collaring the ball dashed through the Sydney backs and was within a yard of scoring when he unselfishly passed to W. On being thrown out one of the Sydney forwards got the ball, passed to s back, who passed to McArthur, and the latter getting opposite the goal took a pot and seored. the game standing—Sydney, 6 points ; Wairarapa. 5 points, viz., one goal kicked from the field and a try for New 3 oulh Walsa ; and one goal secured from a try for Wamnpa. Shortly afterwards time was called. The main features of the play on tns part of the visitors was their capital pasaing and the dodgy runs of McArthur, who waa carried off the field by his comrades tbs strong point of the Wairarapa players waa their dribbling.
